Shoalhaven Citizen of the Year News - Sanctuary Point Bike Bump Track! - Fran Mooney Facebook Page

Editors Notes:
Elections always provide a rainbow of promises from candidates, especially when we live in a Federally swinging seat of Gilmore. Each candidate is like Santa Claus, with his bag of gifts/ or not. (without his suit and reminders) As voters, we judge each candidate with what is promised, what has been done and hope that promises are kept. Not all promises can be kept and there are promises that will be honoured. Instead of promises, why don't we ask candidates to provide us with pledges that solidify a promise?

Dictionary. com meaning :

Promise: a declaration or assurance that one will do something or that a particular thing will happen.
Pledge: a solemn promise or undertaking.

Anyway, congratulations Fran here is her news. I'm sure other candidates will be running to Fran with more pledges? Now, my other thought was if she wasn't Shoalhaven Citizen of the year, would she have got this?:

From Fran's Faebook Page:

I CAN NOW SHARE THE NEWS!
THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT HAS JUST BEEN MADE ON ABC by Andrew Constance and Paul Ell
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has committed $75k to the Sanctuary Point Pump Track with the expectation that Council will match.

We’re on the way to building a better future for SANCTUARY POINT and THE BAY AND BASIN community

Great news! An Albanese Labor Government will invest in local schools -Hon. Fiona Phillips MP Gilmore (ALP)

Today I welcomed Shadow Minister for Education, Tanya Plibersek to the South Coast to join me in making two critical funding commitments for our local schools in Bomaderry and Ulladulla.

I’ve always been a fan of public education, and nothing has changed. Growing up on a local family dairy farm, I went to Terara Public School and I was one of around six students to go on to Nowra High School, where great opportunities awaited me.

I’m really pleased that Labor will help improve infrastructure in our local schools, so students have the best possible environment to learn.

Our commitment is for
$300,000 for covered outdoor areas at Bomaderry High School.

Bomaderry High School has been in desperate need of extra funds to upgrade ageing infrastructure and repair damage from storms.

Our commitment will fund covered outdoor play areas and upgrades to netball and basketball courts.
With Shadow Minister for Education, Tanya Plibersek and Bomaderry High School P&C President Cath Philpott making the announcement today that an Albanese Labor Government will invest in local schools, including outdoor shade structures at Bomaderry High School.
An Albanese Labor Government will also provide $45,000 to Ulladulla High School for outdoor shade and rain protection.

Outdoor all-weather areas are crucial to the health and wellbeing of students, to ensure they can still gather and play safely outdoors.
Join the campaign!
With Ulladulla HIgh School Principal Denise Lofts, teachers, P&C and SRC representatives letting them know that an Albanese Labor Government will invest in local schools, including shade structures at Ulladulla High School.
With your support, under an Albanese Labor government, I will create local jobs and:
  • Put nurses back into nursing homes with better food for residents and a pay rise for aged care workers.
  • Fix the GP crisis and improve local health and mental health services.
  • Invest in our local schools and make TAFE free for skills shortage courses.
  • Take real action to rebuild after disasters and prepare our community for the future.
  • Build better infrastructure, including fixing NBN connections and mobile coverage.
  • Boost affordable and social housing.
Thank you for sharing with me over the last three years what is important to you. I can't wait to keep building a better future with you and for you.
Yours sincerely,

Fiona Phillips MP
Member for Gilmore

Well looking at the recent results, there will be no Christian Democrat Party and Nationals and no Independents.  As a marginal 2.6% swinging seat at hand required unseating the current candidate - it is considered a hot seat to watch around Australia.

With all the Electoral Polls predicting the wrong winner at the last Federal Election, in my books, the only polls that count are election day. You've probably heard that before!

*Based on the 2019 results, if the 83.7% National votes might transfer to Liberal Party candidate Andrew Constance, which is 11,267 votes approximately and then ALP candidate, Fiona Phillips 2, 195 votes

*Also based on the 2019 results, the CDP votes 76% might be transferred to Liberal Party candidate Andrew Constance and then at least 24% might be transferred to ALP Candidate, Fiona Phillips. Those figures represent 1,408 for LIB Candidate Andrew Constance and 444 for ALP candidate Fiona Phillips

*Then from the  2019 results, Independent votes might be distributed 54% to ALP candidate, Fiona Phillips and 46% to LIB candidate, Andrew Constance, representing figures of  4,095 to ALP Candidate, Fiona Phillips and 3,490 to LIB candidate, Andrew Constance

Yet, what we must consider here, is it has been a tough last two and a bit years with COVID-19  restrictions, isolation, people working from home, business may have suffered a bit/lot from this and are starting to pick up. No government of the day around the world didn't have difficulty making decisions and there would have been mostly supported by their opposition parties.  We've had fires and now we have rains, no need to blame anyone, it is natural in Australia. Yet for some people it was devasting. I always wonder how people survive these natural disasters, especially if not covered by insurance for the buildings.

We can't judge this election and compare it to the previous election, as we have reduced candidates numbers and new candidates running for election in Gilmore. The political field was also different to this year's election and it will depend on what each candidate is offering to each voter and how it will be budgeted. Although, for most voters, the budgeting is not important it is what is offered and promised. There are voters that swing from the candidate during the last three years and decide on the day of polling.

So, in rounding this up, each and everyone's vote in Gilmore is so important. Just make sure you make sure your vote counts, no matter, who you vote for - an informal vote is really a wasted vote. We all should be proud of making that important vote.

A tip from me, if you are not within the electorate of Gilmore on 21st may 2022, go pre-poll or postal vote. On postal vote, I heard someone requested it, never received male and received a fine after the election for not voting.
