As you know, after a difficult 2020, this year, triple j has chosen to partner with Lifeline to bring the Hottest 100 countdown to the community with a big focus on promoting positive mental health and encouraging help-seeking and help-giving behaviours.

You can pick up this year’s Hottest 100 t-shirt here – all proceeds will go to Lifeline to help us answer more calls.

Our Volunteer Crisis Supporter, Mel Yu spoke to triple j just the other day. Courageously, she took the opportunity to share her story about Gus, the love of her life, who she tragically lost to suicide when she was just 26 years old.  Mel talked about the challenge of shaping a new life while living with the emptiness without him.  She shared her determination to prevent others from experiencing the pain of loss and how her role as a Lifeline Volunteer Crisis Supporter helps to keep people safe in their moment of deep distress.

Like all our volunteers, we consider Mel to be super cool.  She gives her time generously, the kindest of strangers, who helps others find hope.

Mel was eager to get behind the triple j partnership because she saw the value of the opportunity to speak directly to young people about how they can find help and how they can support those they love.

She now rocks the Hottest 100 t-shirt to every summer BBQ she attends, a conversation starter and an opportunity to spread hope.

Have you bought your triple j Hottest 100 collector’s item tee? Grab it online or donate to Lifeline here.

It costs Lifeline $39 to answer a call, that’s the same price as a Hottest 100 t-shirt! Now’s as good a time as any to become a proud advocate for HOPE and youth mental health.

Thanks for all your support,
