NAIDOC WEEK 2020

Always Was, Always Will Be.

This week, we celebrate NAIDOC Week. The theme for this year is 'Always Was, Always Will Be'. It recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.

Learn more about NAIDOC week here: www.naidoc.org.au

Council launched the 'Walking on Country' short film this year. This shortened version captures the unique experience of what connection to Country means to a number of individual Aboriginal community members of the region.

Hitchcocks Lane Planning Proposal

We are assessing a proponent-initiated Planning Proposal to rezone land south of Hitchcocks Lane in Berry to permit new housing development.

We are seeking community feedback on the Planning Proposal and accompanying planning controls in the draft Development Control Chapter N3: Berry Residential Subdivision. We are accepting feedback between 28 October 2020 – 8 January 2021.

Ahoy boaties! Check your flares!

Did you know marine flares must be replaced before their expiry date?

The Expired Marine Flares Collection Program, hosted by NSW Roads & Maritime Services starts this month. Marine flares contain explosives so this is the ONLY way to dispose of them safely. They cannot be accepted at Council Waste Depots and should never be placed in any kerbside bins. Check the RMS website for dates and collection locations for the Shoalhaven.

Streamlined DA process

We have been working with the NSW Department of Industry and Planning to review and improve aspects of our Development Application (DA) process.

Additionally, we have undertaken a review of the DA lodgement  process to ensure it aligns with the new NSW Planning Portal.

From 31 December 2020, the NSW Planning Portal will become the required way to lodge a DA with us.

We encourage customers to lodge applications via the Planning Portal from 1 December to benefit from the new system.

It's National Recycling Week!

Did you know our kerbside trucks collect approximately 12000 tonnes of recyclable material every year from Shoalhaven households?

That's a lot of resources such as paper, glass, plastic and metals being diverted from landfill and recycled. Keep up the good work Shoalhaven!

Find out more about reducing waste in the Shoalhaven and see what goes in the Yellow Bin on our Reducing Waste page, or download below.
