Recovery into Readiness Webinar Recording Available Online - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council Media Release

18 September 2020

The recording of the recent Recovery into Readiness webinars, held on 26 August, is available online on Shoalhaven City Council’s Facebook page.

Shoalhaven’s Mayor Amanda Findley said, “If you were unable to join the live webinars I do urge you to watch the recording of the session to learn about the practical steps you can take to prepare this fire season.

“The positive community response to the webinars is very encouraging. Many people have commented that the information presented is helpful and seeing our local panel of emergency management experts from the Rural Fire Service, NSW Police and Council working collaboratively is reassuring,” she said.

“It is the people on the ground locally who can keep our local communities updated and safe during an emergency. People have appreciated having an opportunity to ask questions about the impact of COVID on evacuation centres and any additional resources following the last fire season,” said Clr Findley.

“The session aims to help Shoalhaven communities to get ready for the next emergency/fire season and highlights important matters to consider. Viewing the recording should be helpful for residents who are wanting to prepare for the current fire season.

“Last year's bushfire season started in August for some parts of the country, it is important that we start to prepare now,” she said.

“According to the Australia bushfire outlook report, the south coast of NSW expects higher than normal fire potential for this time of year due to long-term dry conditions in areas that did not burn in the 2019/20 fire season. There are some important steps we can all take to get ready today,” said Clr Findley.

On Facebook, the 7pm livestream event reached 1808 engagements with over 6000 views of the webinar and a reach of 14500. To date, the recordings on YouTube have clocked up 77 views and more than 250 people visited the Bushfire Recovery page to view the recordings.

Over 50 community members joined the session via the Teams platform, with 12 questions sent to the panel during the event. Questions and answers that were discussed during the webinar are available online on Council’s Bushfire Recovery page.

Practical emergency preparation steps are listed on Council’s Get Ready Resource page.
