Dear All,
Friday, September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. Since 2012, Lifeline has been observing this day through our Click here for details campaign.
This year, Out of the Shadows will again unite local Lifeline centres and individuals across Australia for a significant walk at sunrise and to remember and reflect on the nine lives lost to suicide in Australia every day.
Most importantly we’ll walk in solidarity to support those impacted by suicide; working together to create change and bring suicide out of the darkness and into the light. Will you join us?
Face to face or virtual – we can still walk as one.
Whilst COVID-19 continues to impact Australia this year, it is more important than ever to connect. We can still unite at the same time on the same day to send a collective message of hope.
Lifeline centres will host face to face walks where possible and in accordance with state-based restrictions. Join your local Lifeline centre’s Out of the Shadows community walk or register your own.
Set your alarm, put your shoes by the front door and take a walk on your own, with a friend (or a small group) and know that likeminded members of the community will be doing the same thing a couple of streets down, or the next town along.
John, will you walk with us? We ask you to help us send the clearest message of HOPE yet to those who are struggling with the impacts of suicide.
Together we can ensure no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone.
Thank you.

For some of you to know that my birthday (coming of age) is coming up, I have introduced a fundraiser for something that is close to my heart for Lifeline.
So far raised $265.00. Help us raise $500.00. That will be appreciated.
This is a letter I received from Lifeline, I urge you all to read it:
Dear John,
Earlier this year, you got behind Lifeline Australia and supported us through the epic Triple J hottest 100 campaign! Thanks to you, Lifeline Australia raised enough money to reach an additional 18,000 people this year, people who could’ve been in their darkest moments.
We wanted to let you know about the next big thing we are doing to further support our communities…
Reckon you’re game enough to do 3,318 push-ups in a month? Get fit, have fun, and support Lifeline and mental health this June by joining the Push Up Challenge!
What will you push for this June?
At Lifeline, we’re pushing for the time when we speak about our mental health in the same way we speak about our physical health. We’re pushing for an Australia free of suicide.
Will you help us push for that?
This June Lifeline is pumped to have been named a beneficiary of Australia's largest fitness-based mental health initiative, The Push-Up Challenge.
It’s a real challenge. But so is preventing suicide.
Participants take on 3,318 push-ups from 1-25th June putting the spotlight on the tragic number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2019, whilst raising vital funds for Lifeline's critical services.
Every push-up counts. Every push-up remembers a life lost to suicide.
Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much. John, will you join team Lifeline and push for better mental health?
This past year has taken its toll on many in our community; unprecedented demand for our services has not slowed, with January to March generating more calls for support than ever in the history of Lifeline. Currently, Lifeline is receiving a call for help every 30 seconds.
John, that's about the same time it would take to perform 20 push-ups.
You may have had your own experience with mental ill health, or might know someone going through a tough time. Not only is The Push-Up Challenge a way to promote exercise as a way of improving your own mental health, it's a great way to start a conversation with your friends and family about their mental health - and show that mental health is just as important as physical health.
Through The Push-Up Challenge you can sign up solo, share the load with your mates or co-workers and create a team that can work together to accomplish 3,318 push-ups.
Spread them out over the day, split them out between your teammates, and track your progress, all while learning more about mental health and raising funds to help create an Australia free of suicide.
My goal is to raise $1 million this June to ensure Lifeline's critical crisis support and suicide prevention services are accessible to anyone who needs them - anytime, anywhere and in the way those who need our support feel most comfortable approaching us.
John, surely that is worth pushing for?
Lifeline is here for all Australians through any challenge, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Will you support us in ours?
Join The Push-Up Challenge for Team Lifeline. Register now.
Together with your help we can ensure no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone.
Thank you.

Checking in to make sure you know that the Hottest 100 voting is now open! To vote for your favourite songs, click here!
As you know, after a difficult 2020, this year, triple j has chosen to partner with Lifeline to bring the Hottest 100 countdown to the community with a big focus on promoting positive mental health and encouraging help-seeking and help-giving behaviours.
You can pick up this year’s Hottest 100 t-shirt here – all proceeds will go to Lifeline to help us answer more calls.
Our Volunteer Crisis Supporter, Mel Yu spoke to triple j just the other day. Courageously, she took the opportunity to share her story about Gus, the love of her life, who she tragically lost to suicide when she was just 26 years old. Mel talked about the challenge of shaping a new life while living with the emptiness without him. She shared her determination to prevent others from experiencing the pain of loss and how her role as a Lifeline Volunteer Crisis Supporter helps to keep people safe in their moment of deep distress.
Like all our volunteers, we consider Mel to be super cool. She gives her time generously, the kindest of strangers, who helps others find hope.
Mel was eager to get behind the triple j partnership because she saw the value of the opportunity to speak directly to young people about how they can find help and how they can support those they love.
She now rocks the Hottest 100 t-shirt to every summer BBQ she attends, a conversation starter and an opportunity to spread hope.
Have you bought your triple j Hottest 100 collector’s item tee? Grab it online or donate to Lifeline here.
It costs Lifeline $39 to answer a call, that’s the same price as a Hottest 100 t-shirt! Now’s as good a time as any to become a proud advocate for HOPE and youth mental health.
Thanks for all your support,

Drowning continues to be one of the leading causes of accidental death for Australian children under 5 years of age.
Many of these occur in swimming pools, due to faulty or non-compliant barriers. By law requires that child-resistant barriers are required for permanent pools, portable pools and outdoor spas.
There are simple steps you can take to make sure your pool is a safe pool. Find out how here.

| | New Leaves, New Lives Art ExhibitionThis free art exhibition to be held 4-10 January at the Ulladulla Civic Centre is a local community initiative sponsored by Lifeline South Coast. The exhibition hopes to be part of the recovery process for our community, coinciding with the anniversary of the worst of the fire devastation. The artwork will not so much focus on the fire event, but instead draw attention to the resilience and recovery that we see in nature and help us draw encouragement for our own recovery journey. |
