Christmas time can be a challenging time of year for some families. Least of all for those who struggle to make ends meet and this year has proven to be extra challenging for many in our region.   

Shoalhaven City Council is encouraging the community to donate to the annual Mayor’s Giving Box this festive season. The annual charity campaign is a partnership between Shoalhaven City Council and Stockland Nowra Shopping Centre.   

Donated presents and funds are distributed to local charities in the Shoalhaven. This year the charities include Cullunghutti Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, Lyrebird Preschool, Clipper Road Children's Centre and Salt Ministries. 

Unwrapped presents can be dropped off at the Mayor’s Giving Box, in the Stockland Nowra Shopping Centre or at Council's Nowra City Administration Building. Online donations will also be accepted via the GIVIT platform.   

A small gift can go a long way to giving a little joy to someone in need this Christmas time. For more details or to donate online visit Shoalhaven City Council’s website. 

Upbeat Songs With John X-Mass Song Countdown Shows as from 14th December

 

We will de counting down Christmas songs on the next 2 upbeat Songs With John' Radio Show as on Monday 14th and Monday 21st of this month.

So, if you are a child and would like you parents to listen or if you are and adult and you would like your children or even grand children to listen, so the entire family will be able to listen to great Christmas Carols from The Studio of Bay & Basin 92.7FM. Sing, whistle, clap you hands, click your fingers or just relax and listen to the enightening program that will be brought to you.

If you are placing a song request, we ask that you provide a Christmas Carol or song for the next 2 weeks.

Traffic Changes Planned in Nowra for Scheduled Arrival of Santa's Sleigh - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven residents are being advised that from 6am on 9 December to 4pm on 23 December Junction Street, Nowra will be closed to motorists between Kinghorne Street and O’Connell Lane while Junction Court becomes a Christmas Wonderland with a Santa Sleigh and reindeers, Christmas tree avenue and buskers.

ee bringing The Nowra Shine Bright Christmas Wonderland to Junction Street featuring a Christmas tree avenue and Santa’s Sleigh and his Reindeers.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said it is great to see Nowra’s Christmas spirit is alive and well.

"As 2020 has been difficult year for many people, Christmas is a chance for us to come together and celebrate.

“Why not meet for a catch up with friends to enjoy the ambience, grab a coffee and a bite to eat and support the local artists who will be filling our Nowra CBD streets with festive music on Thursday evenings and Saturdays, across the Christmas shopping period.

“It is such a wonderful atmosphere for buying Christmas gifts in the many quality stores located in the Nowra CBD. I encourage everyone to spend here this year and wrap up your Christmas shopping in the Nowra CBD. Don’t forget to take advantage of the late-night shopping on Thursdays,” said Clr Findley.

Don’t miss the Christmas decorations installed along Junction Street and throughout Jelly Bean Park that have been coordinated by Council and the Nowra CBD Revitalisation Committee.

Drowning continues to be one of the leading causes of accidental death for Australian children under 5 years of age.  

Many of these occur in swimming pools, due to faulty or non-compliant barriers. By law requires that child-resistant barriers are required for permanent pools, portable pools and outdoor spas.

Christmas in the CBD From Thursday 10 to Monday 28 December Junction Street, Nowra will be closed to motorists between NAB and Westpac.  In the spirit of Christmas, Junction Court will Shine Bright and be transformed into a Christmas Wonderland.  Visit the Nowra CBD to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere with a stroll down Christmas Tree Avenue. COVID-19 awareness for food service By now, all Shoalhaven food premises must have a registered Covid-19 Safety Plan specific to their business in accordance with the NSW Health Order. Council Environmental Health Officers have been out inspecting cafes, takeaways and restaurants advising of this regulatory requirement and providing assistance wherever possible.  To help food business owners and their staff, the NSW Food Authority and NSW Health have developed a free COVID-19 awareness for food service online course. Lifeline is offering a video counselling service at no cost to those who have been impacted by recent bushfires and/or COVID-19. Supporting our neighbours Funding is still available through the Supporting Our Neighbours program to help landholders replace bushfire damaged boundary fencing bordering public lands.  This money can also be issued retrospectively, so even if you have already rebuilt, you can still receive this grant.   South East Local Land Services advises that the approval process is simple, just complete a short form online or call their team on 1300 778 080.   DETAILS

Local sporting champions Round 3 of the Australian Sports Commission Local Sporting Champions program is now open and provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. New Leaves, New Lives Art Exhibition This free art exhibition to be held 4-10 January at the Ulladulla Civic Centre is a local community initiative sponsored by Lifeline South Coast. The exhibition hopes to be part of the recovery process for our community, coinciding with the anniversary of the worst of the fire devastation. The artwork will not so much focus on the fire event, but instead  draw attention to the resilience and recovery that we see in nature and help us draw encouragement for our own recovery journey. Shoalhaven City Council Calls for Donations to the Annual Mayor's Giving Box this Christmas - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council is encouraging residents to give to those in need by donating to the annual Mayor’s Giving Box this Christmas time.  

The annual charity campaign is a partnership between Shoalhaven City Council and Stockland Nowra Shopping Centre with donated presents and funds distributed to local charities in the Shoalhaven.  

This year the Mayor's Giving Box will support the following organisations Cullunghutti Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, Lyrebird Preschool, Clipper Road Children’s Centre and Salt Ministries. 

Donations to the Mayor’s Giving Box can be made online on Council’s website or in-person until Sunday13 December 2020.  

Unwrapped presents can be dropped off at the Mayor’s Giving Box, located between Lowes and Connor in the Stockland Nowra Shopping Centre. 

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley said: “Today I'm delighted to launch the annual Mayor’s Giving Box. This year has been a particularly difficult year for some in our community and I am calling on residents who can help to donate”.  

“Even a small contribution can help bring a little joy to a young child, family or an adult in need”, Clr Findley said.  

“I am pleased that Stockland Nowra continues to partner with Council”, Clr Findley stated.  

“I have chosen these local organisations as they support our most vulnerable within the Shoalhaven”, Clr Findley stated.

Blacktown Mayoress, Mrs Nina Bleasdale is calling on the local community to remember those less fortunate and share in the joy of Christmas by donating a gift to the annual Mayoress Christmas Gift Appeal. Gifts are sought for children aged 0 to 16 years. Gift suggestions include new and unused toys, books,clothing and non-perishable goods.
