More Turf Improvements for Shoalhaven Sportsgrounds - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Thanks to Shoalhaven City Council’s top dressing program, sportsgrounds across the Shoalhaven are benefiting from additional repair and maintenance. 

The main purpose of top dressing turf with a sand/soil mix is to level the ground to provide an even, quality playing surface for local athletes. A total of 13 sportsgrounds will have been improved in 2020 through an investment of $227,694.  

With the help of Special Rate Variation (SRV) funding, the program has expanded in recent years, up from eight sportsgrounds in 2019 and three sportsgrounds in 2018.  

Council has also recently completed the 2020 spring sportsfield fertiliser program. The program includes the soil testing and fertilising of 45 individual fields across 26 sporting precincts with the amendments supplied tailored to each sportsground’s individual soil test result.  

Targeted soil improvements and nutrient additions improve sports turf density which improves field safety.  

The budget expenditure for the fertiliser program was $46,501 and with the help of SRV funding this program has also been expanded in 2020 up from 29 fields across 16 sites in 2019. 

Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley is proud of the turf improvements for local sporting facilities. 

“In response to community expectation the expansion of the repair and maintenance of sportsfields means more athletes can enjoy quality sportsgrounds. Even surfaces with healthy turf are safer for athletes plus the fertiliser program reduces wastage thanks to the soil testing strategy.  

“Special Rate Variation funding is a way of delivering projects our community has asked for, and enables Council to ensure our infrastructure is of a high standard,” said Clr Findley.

COVID-19 awareness for food service By now, all Shoalhaven food premises must have a registered Covid-19 Safety Plan specific to their business in accordance with the NSW Health Order. Council Environmental Health Officers have been out inspecting cafes, takeaways and restaurants advising of this regulatory requirement and providing assistance wherever possible.  To help food business owners and their staff, the NSW Food Authority and NSW Health have developed a free COVID-19 awareness for food service online course. Lifeline is offering a video counselling service at no cost to those who have been impacted by recent bushfires and/or COVID-19. Supporting our neighbours Funding is still available through the Supporting Our Neighbours program to help landholders replace bushfire damaged boundary fencing bordering public lands.  This money can also be issued retrospectively, so even if you have already rebuilt, you can still receive this grant.   South East Local Land Services advises that the approval process is simple, just complete a short form online or call their team on 1300 778 080.   DETAILS

Local sporting champions Round 3 of the Australian Sports Commission Local Sporting Champions program is now open and provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. New Leaves, New Lives Art Exhibition This free art exhibition to be held 4-10 January at the Ulladulla Civic Centre is a local community initiative sponsored by Lifeline South Coast. The exhibition hopes to be part of the recovery process for our community, coinciding with the anniversary of the worst of the fire devastation. The artwork will not so much focus on the fire event, but instead  draw attention to the resilience and recovery that we see in nature and help us draw encouragement for our own recovery journey. Having a Break during School Holidays, Sports, Weddings, Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment & House Guests - NSW Government

 

It's been a tough year so far. A holiday is a great way to recharge. While you're relaxing it's vital you keep doing what works to protect the community.

If you're planning a getaway in regional NSW please stick to the rules. Indoor spaces can be high-risk for the spread of COVID-19. If you're holidaying with friends and extended family, handwashing and physical distancing rules still apply.

If you're feeling unwell, please don't travel - stay home and get tested. If you're somewhere that makes it hard to stay 1.5m from others, please wear a mask.

Having a gathering at your place? Every guest is responsible

You may feel safe among family and friends, but COVID-19 has spread easily at social gatherings.

The rule is that you can invite up to 20 guests over, but we're recommending you keep it to 10 people.

If you break the rules and have more than 20 people at your place, every visitor may be held responsible and given a $1,000 on-the-spot fine, not just the host.

Remember to stay 1.5m apart, say "no" to hugs, and wash your hands often.

$1,500 Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment available

NSW Workers who have no leave entitlements are eligible for a one-off $1,500 payment for every 14 days they are directed by NSW Health to self-isolate or quarantine - or when caring for someone with COVID-19.

The Pandemic Leave enables workers to self-isolate or care for family members while still being financially supported. If you're a part of a couple you can both claim this payment.

Up to 150 seated guests allowed at weddings

Even with the current restrictions you can still organise a great wedding. The ceremony and the reception can have up to 150 guests, but they must be seated.

The total number of guests allowed depends on the size of your venue; the 4-square-metres per guest and physical distancing rules still apply.

Only the wedding party, up to a maximum of 20 people, is allowed on a dance floor. There can't be a rotation of people on the dance floor beyond this wedding party.

Bigger crowds allowed at sport stadiums

From 1 October, Sydney stadium capacity increases to 50% (up to 40,000 spectators) for major sporting events.

If you're going to attend, you need to be wearing a mask whenever you're not sitting at your seat. This means you should also wear a mask on public transport getting to and from the venue.
