Implementation Team Co-chair for Zero Suicides in Care

Expression of Interest

Towards Zero Suicides is a NSW Government health initiative

to bring together a rich and diverse group of stakeholders to

collaborate with the common purpose of designing more

effective, efficient, and sustainable supports for people in

 suicidal crisis.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is

implementing four initiatives in their region, SafeHaven,

Suicide Prevention Outreach Teams, Rural Counselling and

 Zero Suicides in Care.

Zero Suicides in Care will support the re-design of current

services to prevent suicides among people accessing public

mental health services, whether they be within hospitals or in

the community. This initiative will support staff in the

redesigning procedures, reducing risks and building skills to

prevent suicides. (Information on the other Towards Zero

 Suicides initiatives below).

Zero Suicides in Care is guided by an Implementation team. The

Implementation team will use co-design to provide decisions on

changes within the ISLHD mental health service.

We are seeking a person with lived experience of suicidality,

representing experience with crisis supports (e.g. emergency

department) and public mental health services to represent the

Implementation Team as a co-chair. This expression of interest is

specifically for the lived experience co-chair position and will work

with the Implementation Manager of Zero Suicides in Care (other

 co-chair), Pippa Stevenson to:

Your roles

  • Maintain equal ownership and control of the meeting process between people with lived experience and other team members of the Implementation Team.

  • Recognising and reducing barriers for Team members including supporting them to challenge assumptions and encouraging their contributions.

  • Engage in briefings before the meetings and de-briefs at the end of the meetings for any Implementation Team member, as needed. How this is conducted is to be assessed on a case by case basis by the co-chairs.

  • Provide additional support for people with lived experience Team members, if requested, within the confines of the Zero Suicides in Care initiative and its role.

  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders (executive sponsor, health workers (including peer workers) and other relevant stakeholders),

Meeting roles

  • With your co-chair set the items for the agenda of the fortnightly meeting.

  • Co-facilitate Implementation team meetings.

  • Ensure timeliness and effectiveness of the fortnightly meeting and its agenda.

  • Ensure the language used by all Team members is inclusive and respectful.

Commitment and remuneration

  • Between 8 to 10 hours per fortnight. This includes:

    • Implementation team meeting for 2hrs per fortnight on Friday from 2pm to 4pm

    • Co-Chair meeting for 1hr per fortnight (Day/time to be determined)

    • 5 - 7 hours per fortnight, as required, to attend to additional roles.

immediate response and follow-up care for people in the

 community experiencing a suicidal crisis.
