Is a series of short training courses that I am being funded to

'I would like to deliver to build community resilience, by training on the skills to support someone who is distressed and may have suicidal ideation.'

Suzanne is offering courses to the community,  to provide special prevention & awareness of suicide. Please provide your support if you need it. Below are the dates of the one day training courses:

Well, preventing and providing awareness of suicide is something that I personally, will do my best to make more people aware of. The simple words that I tell people are; 'There is hope. There is plenty of love around. Sometimes we don't even know it is around.'

I thank Suzanne, who is not only preventing suicide throughout our Bay and basin community, she is providing that necessary awareness, which we all need to prepare ourselves if someone feels in this situation.

A lot of people have fallen away from religion from the belief of how the earth was created by God through the book of Genesis right through to Acts of the Apostles and other bible books. Prayers to me always helps even though answers may not come straight away

Before people contemplate suicide - there are  inspirational quotes that I would like to quote from the Hoy Bible, which may assist towards the prevention of suicide:

IPART’s Additional Special Variations for 2022-23 - NSW IPART

 

Updated Information Paper and Application Form Released

The Office of Local Government (OLG) has released new guidelines for the ASV process in circular 22-07. In response IPART has published an updated information paper and application form that outline how councils can apply and how we will be assessing applications for ASV’s under these new guidelines.

The new guidelines supersede the original guidelines in the OLG circular  22-03 and the guidance in IPART’s information paper and application form published on 28 March 2022.

We will be accepting applications from 9 April through to 29 April 2022 through the IPART website

Mechanical intervention at the entrance of Tabourie Lake - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

4 April 2022

The high tides and strong winds experienced over the weekend resulted in the entrance to Tabourie Lake closing. Although only 2 mm of rainfall has been observed in the catchment during the past 48 hours, the lake level increased from 1.07 m AHD to 1.35 m AHD. The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a 50 per cent chance of more than 15 – 25 mm of rainfall in the catchment on Wednesday and a 50 per cent chance of more than 25 – 50 mm to fall on Thursday.

The water level at Tabourie Lake, at 11:45 am on 4 April 2022, was above the trigger level of 1.30 m AHD. In accordance with the Tabourie Lake Entrance Management Policy, and subject to the safety of the machinery operators, Council opened the entrance on the afternoon of 4 April 2022.

Council has worked and continues to work collaboratively with State Government Agencies to ensure the entrance was opened in a timely and safe manner. 

People are requested to keep away from the edges of the dug channel and eroding banks as these areas are very unstable and unsafe. It is expected that the low-lying areas around the lake will be subject to flooding until the water recedes, and people should put in place their flood emergency plan.

Council is reminding residents that anyone needing flood assistance should contact the SES on 132 500.

Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

4 April 2022

Shoalhaven City Council has partnered with Red Cross, Service NSW, and HealthySelf Wellbeing to hold information sessions during April and May where people over the age of 60 can come together and build connections with like-minded people in the community.  

Recent years have seen the Shoalhaven community affected by multiple natural disasters, including drought, bushfires, floods and COVID.  Council recognises the importance of supporting older adults in being informed and prepared before, during and after an emergency or natural disaster.   

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said, “Communities that are more connected with each other, tend to be more resilient and as a result, recover faster from extreme events."   

“With funding support from Resilience NSW, the Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults initiative has been developed by Council to support our older adult community to be prepared, physically, emotionally and psychologically for emergencies and natural disasters,” said Cr Findley.    

“We are encouraging people to come along and bring a friend, especially someone that may be experiencing isolation or who could benefit from meeting new people in their community,” said Cr Findley.   

A light meal and refreshments will be provided at each session, giving everyone time to have a chat and connect as a community.

Shoalhaven’s Director of City Futures, Carey McIntyre, Announced 4 April 2022 - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council announces the appointment of Carey McIntyre to the role of Director, City Futures.  

Mr McIntyre has over 27 years of experience in local government, working at Campbelltown, Wollongong, Camden, and Shellharbour Councils, in the fields of engineering, town planning, project management and strategic planning.  

Mr McIntyre described the move as an exciting opportunity, and said he was looking forward to being part of the Shoalhaven City Council Executive Team. 

 Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley said she is incredibly pleased with the appointment of Mr McIntyre to the position of Director, City Futures.  

“Carey McIntyre joins us with a wealth of experience in engineering, town planning, project management and strategic planning with NSW local governments.”  

“He has extensive stakeholder engagement experience and is a strong advocate for public sector administration and the opportunities that present themselves for public/private sector collaboration.” 

“I’m sure you will join me in welcoming Mr McIntyre to Council in his new role,” Mayor Findley said.  

Under Mr McIntyre's leadership, the City Futures Directorate is responsible for Strategic Land Use and Infrastructure Planning, Urban Release Areas Transformational City Projects, City Growth, Advocacy and Tourism and Economic Development. The directorate is also responsible for Placemaking and Urban Renewal, Affordable Housing Strategies and Strategic Property Asset Ventures. 

Carey McIntyre joined Council on 4 April 2022.   

Conjola Park Foreshore Bushfire Recovery Grant - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

 

5 April 2022

Shoalhaven City Council is pleased to announce that $615,000 in grant funding for Conjola Park foreshore bushfire recovery has been received under the NSW Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program. Council is contributing the additional $22,000

required to complete the works. 

The Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program helps communities address priorities and activities for recovery and resilience after the 2019-20 bushfires. 

Council is planning to replace the existing jetty, within Yooralla Bay at the western end of Lake Conjola, with a new 25-metre-long jetty and adjacent pontoons to the Valley Drive boat ramp.  

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley said, “we are committed to continue to rebuilding community facilities, lost or damaged in the bushfires, to a greater standard than they were before.” 

“I understand how important these facilities are to the local community as well as to attract visitors to the area. The grant will also fund the much-anticipated new kayak jetty. Kayaking is one of many popular water activities people enjoy at this beautiful lake, Mayor Findley said.” 

The grants support recovery for communities to enhance and strengthen their resilience and recovery. Projects include:  

• social recovery and resilience needs 
• economic recovery and resilience needs 
• recovery and resilience needs of the built environment. 

Following the formalisation of the funding agreement deed, Council will develop the detailed design for public comment. The project is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2023.

GYM Maintenance Bay & Basin Lesiure Centre

Gymnasium repairs to the Bay & Basin Leisure Centre will be undertaken on Thursday 7th April 2022 between 12.00pm-4.00pm. The gym will still be operational but certain areas will be restricted. We will try to minimise disruptances, so that the majority of exercise equipment can still be used. It would be appreciated if you could avoid using the gym during this time if at all posiible. Thank you for your understanding.
