A Message for All Employers: Free Suicide Prevention Training - Lifeline South Coast

I received this message from the Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention & Awareness Network - LifeLine South Coast are Offering this to Employers - Something to consider....

Hi there,

I am writing today to let you know about a suicide prevention training opportunity that I thought might be of interest to your organisation:

Seeking Expressions of Interest

Lifeline South Coast is working to reduce suicide by connecting with people in their workplaces to deliver skills and knowledge around suicide and what can be done to keep themselves and others safe. As part of this work, Lifeline South Coast is currently being funded by NSW Health to deliver suicide prevention training, known as Gatekeeper training, at no cost.

Eligibility Requirements

The target cohort for this training is men aged 45 years and older, acknowledging that 75% of those who take their own life are male, and that of working age men (20 - 69), those at the highest risk of dying by suicide are men aged 45+. Contextualized towards this target cohort, NSW Health funded places for Gatekeeper training are available to those living and working within the South Coast region, and who are:

  • Men aged 45-years and older; or
  • Individuals working with men in this age group; or
  • Workplaces with high numbers of men 45-years and over.

Gatekeeper Training

As the leading cause of death amongst Australians between the ages of 15 and 44, suicide has a devastating impact on individuals, families, workplaces, and entire communities. Community awareness, connections, and resilience is critical to suicide prevention, recognising the important role of the wider population in building mentally healthy communities that are well-networked and resourceful. Employers have a responsibility to incorporate suicide prevention strategies into their employee health and wellbeing initiatives. Gatekeeper training supports organisations to meet this duty of care requirement free of cost, equipping workers with the knowledge and skills required to identify suicide warning signs, facilitate supportive conversations, and refer their colleagues to appropriate services and resources. Such training has a cumulative effect – upskilling employees, supporting those at risk of suicide, and building a healthier, happier, and more resilient workplace as a result.

Training Delivery

Depending on the needs of your organisation, we have some flexibility surrounding training options, which can be delivered either face-to-face or virtually, and over one day or across multiple days.

For more information or to express your interest, please email us at training@llsc.org.au

All the best,
