A great show of songs was played on Monday and we finally completed the 'Take 2' interview with Bruce Goldsmith from the Sanctuary Point Champions. Feedback received was 'it sounded like a great interview' and was very informative. We thank Bruce for taking time out to explain what the Sanctuary Point Champions are about. We'll catch up with Bruce next year, when he has more to report on behalf of the SP Champions.

Glory Glory to South Sydney on the 3rd October 2021 - At least we reached The Finals of 2021

The NRL game was 2 days ago and we all know the end conclusion to the game. It was a great game, both teams need to be proud of the entire game - it kept the supporters on their feet - throughout the entire match.

Penrith Panthers ended up 2nd on the NRL 2021 competition and South Sydney Rabbitohs ended up 3rd on the NRL competition table. So there were 2 gallant teams who really deserved to end up and be grand finalists. So yes, Penrith Panthers deserved to win the Grand final 2021 based on the score of 14 to 12. A close game that could have gone either way. The winning point was that penalty goal awarded to Penrith in the first half. Also the missed conversion goal towards the end of the second half from South Sydney.

The NRL has changed the rules of the game in so many ways that the way we use to see, understand and play Rugby League, in the last 40 to 50 years. For example, a scrum is not a scrum as it used to be. I remember teams could be penalised for indirect feed, feet across the scrum and now it is legal for balls to be fed directly into the second row.

The six again rule, where a referee can award an extra six tackles to the attacking team instead of penalising the opposing team. This is to speed up the game more.

 The stealing the ball from the attacking player - what's known as 'one on one tackle' - when they are more than one player defending the attacking player with the football - is ridiculous. There should be no stealing or attempting to steal at all.

Finally, Dragging the attacking player back, whilst it appears they are tackled.  When it comes to dragging the attacking player back anywhere from more than one metre to the try line, this should be dealing an offence and the defending team penalised. What concerns me here is when a small full-back is trying to get the ball forward, stops at a forward point and lands on the ground or halfway to the ground. Then a large forward picks the player with one or two hands and drags or pushes the small attacking player back with the football deliberately when it should have been 'tackled made' called by the referee back in the attacking forward position, where the tackle was made.

While I still enjoy watching NRL/ Rugby League, I can see that if there are more rules changes made against the scrum or having the scrum - I can see that there will be no scrum one day - anyway, this is what I would like to share.

Shoalhaven City Council is inviting the community to have their say on the services, programs and projects Council has planned for the coming financial year.  

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking feedback on the Draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan and Budget – 2021/2022 which includes Council's proposed Fees and Charges. 

The draft Delivery Program outlines how Council is working towards achieving the community’s aspirations and long-term vision for our City.  

In the coming financial year Council has over 450 proposed projects to be delivered across the Shoalhaven.  

The following major projects are included in the draft Delivery Program for 2021/2022:   

• Shoalhaven Community & Recreation Precinct (SCaRP) 

• Sanctuary Point Library 

• Nowra Riverfront Precinct 

• Material Recovery Facility 

• Far-North Collector Road 

• Bay and Basin Skate Park 

• Boongaree – Stages 2, 3 and 4 

• Resource Recovery Facility 

 Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said, “The draft Plan outlines how Council is working towards achieving the community’s aspirations and long-term vision for our City”.  

“Council is committed to delivering valuable infrastructure and services which create a safe and attractive community for people to live, work, stay and play,” Clr Findley said. 

“Council is planning for our future City where sustainable growth, development and environmental protection are managed to provide a unique and relaxed lifestyle,” Clr Findley said. 

“This year Council has made it easier for the community to find proposed projects in their area with the inclusion of 85 highlighted proposed projects on its website using the My Area map search function”, Clr Findley said.  

Feedback will close at 5pm on Thursday 27 May 2021.

The ZEST Awards recognises inspiring individuals or innovative projects through these long-standing community awards.

Now in their 11th year, the ZEST Awards continue to celebrate and promote life in Western Sydney and the great things being done by community service sector organisations and volunteers.

All nominees will be invited to attend the ZEST Awards Ceremony, held at Stadium Australia in Olympic Park on Friday 18 June 2021.

We are thrilled to be returning to a live format for the 2021 ZEST Awards after our 2020 virtual edition. We are sure this will be a night to remember.
