WSCF is inviting CEOs, Managers and Leaders of the community care sector to join us for the Western Sydney Community Care Leaders Mixer. The Leaders Mixer is being hosted on National Sorry Day. We acknowledge that reconciliation and appropriate services tailored to Elders and older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continues to be a challenge within the aged care sector and the broader community. This Leaders Mixer will highlight Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander inclusive services, table workforce and industry specific items and provide updates on the aged care sector.

CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PRACTICE GAMBLING RELATED HARM - Western Sydney Community Forum

 

FRAMEWORK LAUNCH & SYMPOSIUM

Western Sydney Community Forum invites you to join us for a Symposium to launch our Culturally Responsive Framework to Address Gambling Related Harm. The Framework is based on the findings of a participatory action research project funded by the NSW Government's Responsible Gambling Fund.  Gambling harm extends beyond individuals to include families, communities and societies, with risk increasing markedly for some groups, including those who speak a language other than English at home. The purpose of the Framework is to increase the capacity of services to provide appropriate and effective responses to those experiencing and impacted by gambling related harm.   The Symposium will present and integrate:  lived experience,  practice experience, and  research experience. There will also be guided interactive simulations of the Framework and its implementation tools, that includes elearning modules, digital storybooks, and a readiness self-assessment score platform.  The Symposium will be held live through a hybrid face to face and digital platform, engaging a broad cross section of groups, agencies, and services. Research Fellow from Macquarie University presenting their new program “Brain Bootcamp,” a program aimed at increasing seniors’ awareness of dementia risk factors.

Now in their 11th year, the ZEST Awards continue to celebrate and promote life in Western Sydney and the great things being done by community service sector organisations and volunteers.

All nominees will be invited to attend the ZEST Awards Ceremony, held at Stadium Australia in Olympic Park on Friday 18 June 2021.

We are thrilled to be returning to a live format for the 2021 ZEST Awards after our 2020 virtual edition. We are sure this will be a night to remember.

Economies Thrives When Communitoes do - Equity & The NSW State Government - Western Sydney Community Forum

 

We welcome the investment in supporting people to have a home. This budget commits $812 million for social and affordable housing and will deliver more than 1,200 new dwellings, and upgrade over 8,000 more. Home buyers may be given a choice on whether to opt-out of paying stamp duty, and instead pay an annual property tax. The Together Home initiative has been extended for two years and additional funds are provided to deliver stable housing and wrap-around support for people experiencing homelessness. These are very welcome commitments that consider the spectrum of housing priorities. But how far does this commitment go towards addressing the fundamental need for housing? Our work on the Home in Western Sydney report is clear that almost 6,500 dwellings are needed per year to meet the forecast demand for social and affordable housing by 2036, in Western Sydney alone. Within this context, the additional investment continues to be a very small step towards accelerating equitable access to housing in Western Sydney, or beyond, which is fundamental to recovery.   “Economies thrive only when communities do. While there are certainly elements within the budget that begin to address some of the key challenges facing Western Sydney and NSW, inequities persist. Greater Western Sydney represents half the population of Sydney. Someone living with Dementia Community Survey - Western Sydney Community Forum

 

Research is currently being undertaken by Western Sydney University to learn more about the experience of caring for someone living with dementia, either in an informal capacity (as a family member or friend) or in a formal capacity (as a care worker or health professional).

By participating in this research you will complete an online survey that asks you about your experiences with dementia care, the areas where people with dementia need the most support, and what kinds of solutions might help. You will not be asked for any personal information and can stay anonymous if you wish and your information will be kept confidential.

There is the chance to enter a draw to win one of ten $100 Visa gift cards by completing this 20 minute survey, as a token of thanks for your time and experience.
