Have your say on The Lower Shoalhaven River Coastal Management Plan until 2/12/24

 

The Lower Shoalhaven River Coastal Management Program (CMP) is now on public exhibition until 2 December 2024 as part of Stage 4 of the CMP development. The draft CMP document can be accessed through the document library on this Get Involved webpage.    Council will be running the following information sessions on the draft CMP, where you can meet the project team who have developed the draft CMP and find out how this will be implemented. Please note that these sessions are not mandatory, and feedback can be provided on the draft CMP throughout the entirety of the public exhibition period by completing the Online Survey or by emailing the Coastal Management Unit – coastal.management@shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au or calling Council on 1300 293 111.  The Stage 4 Drop-In Information Sessions for the Lower Shoalhaven Coastal Management Program (CMP) are being held in person on 20 November 2024 (Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre) and 21 November 2024 (Shoalhaven Heads Community Centre).  Although registration is optional, it is encouraged that you register below to help us plan for the event. The Lake Conjola Coastal Management Program (CMP) is now on public exhibition for community consultation until 25 November 2024 as part of Stage 4 of the CMP development. The Lake Conjola CMP covers a study area that includes the waterbody of Lake Conjola (including Berringer Lake), adjacent foreshores, catchment area, and the Lake entrance to the ocean. Stage 4 involves public exhibition of the draft CMP document, incorporating details from the technical studies and stakeholder feedback received from previous consultations completed throughout Stages 1 to 3 of the CMP process. The draft CMP encompasses a detailed program that lists the management actions for implementation over the next 10 years - including a schedule of when actions will be planned for implementation, their associated costs, how they will be funded, and who will be responsible for their implementation. The draft CMP document can be accessed through the document library on this Get Involved webpage. IPART is finalising its review of maximum Opal fares from 1 January 2025 until 2028 and will publish a determination and final report shortly.

Proposed Valuer General price increases 

The NSW Valuer General is responsible for providing land values in NSW. These are used by councils when calculating rates.  

We’re reviewing the maximum prices the Valuer General can charge for services to councils from 1 July 2025. 

We are seeking input to help us decide what the Valuer General’s efficient costs are, what proportion of those costs should be recovered from councils and other users, and what an appropriate pricing model to recover these costs from councils would be.

Monitoring the NSW Biodiversity Credits Market

 

We have published a workshop summary outlining the main themes and issues raised by stakeholders at workshops on the Biodiversity Credits Market. These included availability and accessibility of market information, transaction costs and efficiency, and the role of government entities in the market. The summary is available on our website. 

You can also read the submissions made by stakeholders to our Discussion paper, which provided an overview of market activity in 2023-24 and our proposed focus areas for monitoring the NSW biodiversity credits market this year.  

Thank you to all those who provided feedback for us to consider in preparing our Annual Report. We will publish the Annual Report in December 2024.

Water Utility Customer Satisfaction Survey Results 

 

IPART has published a fact sheet following our most recent customer satisfaction survey on water utilities. We survey Central Coast Council’s customers 4 times a year about their satisfaction with their water services and compare these results with similar water utilities in Victoria.  

Tracking customer satisfaction in this way helps measure effectiveness of services and protect customer interests, particularly in NSW where the public water utilities largely operate as monopoly suppliers.  

Overall, the results showed customer satisfaction with Central Coast Council’s services has not varied substantially since we first began the survey in April 2021.

Out-of-home care review 

 

Thank you to those who gave input into IPART’s review of out-of-home care.

We’re looking at costs and pricing arrangements for providing out-of-home care to children and young people who can’t live with their own families, as well as the allowance foster carers, relatives and kinship carers receive. 

A public hearing took place last month. We also held several targeted workshops with carers to discuss the costs of caring and options for how to better support carers to continue caring. 

We will consider all the feedback provided and publish a Draft Report in February 2024.
