Council Invites Comment on Completed Trial Collingwood Beach Dune Vegetation Action Plan - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council Media Release

16 October 2020

Shoalhaven City Council’s two-year trial to restore and manage the dune vegetation system at Collingwood Beach, Vincentia is complete and Council invites residents and visitors to comment.

Developed by the Collingwood Beach Dune Reference Group, the action plan trialled a pruning site to create filtered views and a revegetation site to rehabilitate a section of the foreshore.

Council is inviting feedback to ascertain if the two-year trial helped to protect the health and resilience of the dune system and meet community and stakeholder expectations.

Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley said “The dune vegetation at Collingwood Beach has been the subject of contrasting public opinions for many years.

“Although there is appreciation of the value of natural areas and native vegetation in the broader community, there has been extensive unauthorised vegetation removal, poisoning and vandalism of foreshore vegetation along Collingwood Beach,” she said.

“Council’s overall aim is to deter vegetation vandalism and to establish a long-term sustainable management plan for Collingwood Beach’s dune vegetation. Now is the time for community members to provide feedback on Council’s trial strategy,” said Clr Findley.

To have your say on the trial action plan for Collingwood Beach by completing the online survey before it closes at 5pm on Friday 30 October 2020.
