The TERRA within exhibition opens

The TERRA within is a major exhibition at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, and explores the themes of impact and survival in relation to the 250th Anniversary of Cook’s voyage to the East Coast of Australia, featuring powerful artworks by more than 30 Indigenous artists. The exhibition is now open and will run until 5 December 2020.

2020 Climate Awards

Council has been named as a finalist in the Energy Efficiency Achievement Award category for the Cities Power Partnership 2020 Climate Awards.

The Climate Awards recognise the outstanding council-led initiatives all over Australia and celebrate the exceptional achievements of member councils striving to lower greenhouse gas emissions and embrace clean energy and transport.

Indoor Sports Centre success

Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre has been announced as a finalist in two categories the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Crown Group Awards for Excellence in Urban Development 2020.

The awards are designed to highlight innovation, sustainability, industry leadership and excellence in urban development across NSW and the ACT. A date to announce the Awards is yet to be determined.

Water safety skills for summer

A study conducted by Royal Life Saving Australia has revealed a 25% decline in swimming lesson enrolments compared to the same time last year.

If your child is unable to reach the benchmark for their age, Royal Life Saving is recommending that they are enrolled in lessons prior to Summer.

School Creek Bridge reopens

On Thursday, 1 October the new and improved School Creek Bridge was officially opened to residents of Budgong.

The bridge had to be rebuilt after the Currowan fire went through in January, leaving only the concrete piers remaining and destroying access for residents.

The upgrade was completed in mid-September, with Council working quickly to rebuild the infrastructure damaged by the fires with a more fire resilient replacement.

Warden Head Lighthouse masterplan

Shoalhaven residents are invited to have their say on the future of the Warden Head Lighthouse area in Ulladulla.

Council is proudly supporting and collaborating with the local Ulladulla Lighthouse Group in preparing a community-led Master Plan for the Warden Head lighthouse and lookout area.

The area subject to Master Planning is owned and managed by Crown Land.

An online survey is open until 15 October.

Ulladulla memorial obelisk completed

The construction of the frontline services memorial in Ulladulla has now been completed. The memorial honours those who lost their lives selflessly protecting others and their communities during disasters and emergencies.

The obelisk is a memorial for lives lost by Police, Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue, Surf Lifesaving NSW, Emergency Medical Services and other Emergency Services personnel whilst performing their duties protecting our community and environment.

The TERRA within

A major exhibition featuring the works of more than 30 Indigenous artists will soon be on display at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery.

The TERRA within, explores the themes of impact and survival in response to the 250th Anniversary of Cook’s voyage to Australia and will open to the public from 10 October to 5 December 2020 at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra.

The Gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 10am - 4pm and Saturday 10am - 2pm.

ReConstruct offers free solar panels

After the devastation caused by the bushfires over summer, REC – with the support of many partners, has developed a REConstruct program to support impacted communities.

The program aims to deliver community organisations such as sporting clubs access to premium REC Alpha Series solar panels and compatible inverters, fully installed, at no cost.

The program also aims to take positive action to help reduce greenhouse emissions and promote power independence and reduce reliance on grid-based infrastructure.

Strengthening rural communities program

The Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program gives small communities an opportunity to access funding to support broad community needs. Given the events of summer 2019/20, it has also been expanded to offer funding to support recovery in bushfire-affected communities.

The program criteria is flexible, designed to help communities address different needs and opportunities, as they emerge.

Grants are available for grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities.

Good sports awards 2020 now open

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Good Sports Awards which recognise volunteers committed to healthier, family-friendly clubs.

There are eight categories with winners sharing $13,500 in prizes for their clubs.

To be eligible to enter, a club must be an accredited Good Sports Club and meet the eligibility criteria.

Nominations close Tuesday, December 1 with winners announced at the awards ceremony in February/March 2021.
