 New Croquet Club for Milton Ulladulla

The construction of a new croquet facility at Ulladulla Sports Park is now underway.  

Council has engaged a contractor to construct two croquet courts, lighting infrastructure, drainage, irrigation, landscaping and car parking on the new site.

Shoalhaven Pony Club sporting new gear The Shoalhaven Pony Club Inc were successful in obtaining grant funding from Round 2 of our Sports Grant Equipment program.  The club purchased equipment with the funds from the grant to help ensure a strong future for our local equestrian sports, and were very appreciative of the support shown for the club. Shoalhaven Animal Shelter named Outstanding Council Animal Shelter in the 2020 Animal Rescue Awards - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council’s Animal Shelter has been named Outstanding Council Animal Shelter at this year's Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards.  

 The Rescue Awards is a national program that celebrates and recognises achievements in the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of companion animals Australia-wide. 

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley congratulated Council staff on the announcement of the Award.  

"I am thrilled that Shoalhaven Animal Shelter has been recognised for its commitment to providing quality care to rescued animals across the region”, Clr Findley said.  

“In the two years since opening, the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter has successfully cared, rehabilitated and re-homed more than 1,639 animals.  

As a result, the Shelter has had no euthanasia of healthy and rehomable animals”, Clr Findley stated. 

“I commend Council staff for their dedication and hard work. It’s a demanding and sometimes thankless job, that is why I am pleased their work has been recognised and celebrated”, Clr Findley said.  

Council’s Shelter located in Nowra Hill has a team of 10 staff who work seven days a week helping to rehabilitate and rehome rescued animals across the Shoalhaven.   

The Awards were announced on Thursday 15 October 2020.

Council's Animal Shelter recognised in the 2020 JetPets Companion Animal Rescue Awards 

Council staff at Shoalhaven Animal Shelter 

Shoalhaven City Council’s Animal Shelter has been shortlisted as a finalist in t

he category of Outstanding Council Animal Shelter in the 2020 Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards.  

The Rescue Awards celebrate and recognise achievements in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals Australia-wide.  

Since opening in July 2018, Shoalhaven Animal Shelter has provided quality care to 2840 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, sheep, horses, cows and goats.  

Council’s Shelter located in Nowra Hill has a team of 10 staff who work seven days a week helping to rehabilitate and rehome rescued animals across the Shoalhaven.  

In the two years since opening, the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter have successfully cared, rehabilitated and re-homed more than 1,639 animals. 

As a result, the Shelter has had no euthanasian of healthy and rehomable animals.  

The Shelter was also recognised for key programs including a joint initiative with Animal Welfare League and the RSPCA Ulladulla to minimise the amount of undesexed cats and kittens in the local government area. 

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley, commended Council staff for their commitment to providing quality care to rescued animals.  

“I would like to thank the Council staff for their tireless work to rehabilitate and re-home animals in need across the Shoalhaven”, said Clr Findley.  

“No doubt it can be a difficult job at times for our staff, but it is also incredibly rewarding knowing that every animal who comes through Council’s doors is being looked after and given the opportunity to find a new safe and permanent home”, added Clr Findley. 

“The Shelter’s top priority is to provide a safe haven for all animals during their stay. It is an environment where animals feel protected and loved”, said Clr Findley. 

In its third year, the Rescue Awards has attracted more than 1,000 entries across 10 categories, including many excellent industry submissions from around the country.  

The Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 13 October 2020.

Council celebrates Shoalhaven Animal Shelter’s Birthday - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven Animal Shelter celebrates its second birthday as a Council managed facility today.  

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley congratulated staff and said the continued success of the Shelter is due to the wonderful ongoing community support by locals.  

“I am so proud of how the staff have adapted to the varying environments such as bush fire devastation and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Animal Shelter has flourished in its second year,” Clr Findley said.  

“During COVID-19 the Shelter has seen a huge uptake on adoptions to their forever homes. 

“This year the Shelter has seen more than 800 adoptions an increase of 27 per cent compared to last year.  

“It’s wonderful to see that Shoalhaven residents are visiting the shelter first, when they are considering adopting a new pet.  

“I encourage any community members who are looking for their next four-legged family member to look at the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter first. It is a great place to begin that search and they invite everyone to make an appointment to visit the centre in Nowra Hill.” 

Shoalhaven Animal Shelter (Pound) reunites lost pets and livestock with owners, microchips animals, and manages the adoption of pets in need of rehoming. If you are looking to adopt a pet, you may find them here.   

 Shoalhaven Animal Shelter is open seven (7) days a week.
