Shoalhaven City Council is inviting the community to have input on the Draft St Georges Basin Flood Study.
An online survey is now open for feedback from the community until Friday, 8 July 2022. The community can view the Draft Flood Study and ask questions through the Review of St Georges Basin Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan Get Involved webpage.
Shoalhaven City Council engaged Cardno to assist with the preparation of the St Georges Basin Flood Study. This study will update the flood modelling to identify existing flooding behaviour within the catchment and will supersede the previous September 2001 St Georges Basin Flood Study prepared by Webb, McKeon and Associates.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley encourages community members to provide feedback on the Draft Flood Study.
“It is vital that the community has the opportunity to provide input into the development of the St Georges Basin Flood Study. The outcomes of this project can help provide protection for you, your family and your property from flooding”, Mayor Findley stated.
“I encourage you to have your say and help inform the Flood Study and upcoming Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan Review”
“The objective of this Flood Study is to improve understanding of flood behaviour and impacts, and better inform management of flood risk in the St Georges Basin floodplain. The study will also provide a sound technical basis for any further flood risk management investigations in the St Georges Basin floodplain”, Mayor Findley said.
Council received financial support from the NSW State Floodplain Management program managed by the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) to undertake a flood investigation of the Shoalhaven River catchment. Assistance provided under the NSW State Floodplain Management program is $2 from the Government for every $1 provided by the Council.
