Have your Say on the Sanctuary Point District Library Concept Design - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council Media Release

12 April 2021

The concept design for the new Sanctuary Point Library is now available for public comment.

The two storey, architecturally designed project has been developed in partnership with local community members and will provide a new library and community facility for the Bay and Basin area.

The design for the library, which will be located on the corner of Paradise Beach Road and Kerry Street in Sanctuary Point, features a modern library with reading areas, public spaces, group study and children’s areas. It also offers quiet study areas with a peaceful lounge and working spaces.

It will also include an exhibition area,  community/multipurpose space, outdoor terrace, courtyard, recognising that libraries are important and valued social hubs, a safe place for the community to meet and connect.  The design also proposes a pedestrian thoroughfare connecting Kerry Street and Francis Ryan Reserve. Car parking is proposed off Kerry Street and Francis Ryan Reserve.

Jane Lewis, Director – City Lifestyles at Shoalhaven City, encourages residents to attend an upcoming drop-in session or provide written feedback. “I am pleased to see the Sanctuary Point Library reaching this milestone and I encourage local residents to have a look at the concept plans to see the many facilities being delivered by this project.

“There are some really exciting components of the building itself, such as a Green Air Purification system which uses living plants to filter the air, as well as other passive design features like rainwater harvesting and energy recycling.

“I encourage community members to take the opportunity on Tuesday, 20 April to attend drop-in sessions with Council staff and members from the consultant team to talk through the plans and ask any questions you may have regarding the project,” Ms Lewis said.

Two onsite community drop-in sessions will be held on Tuesday, 20 April, in the carpark on the corner of Paradise Beach Road and Kerry Street, Sanctuary Point at 9:30-11:30am and 2:30-4:30pm.
