Shoalhaven City Council is improving safety at Nowra and Kangaroo Valley Showgrounds with works at Nowra scheduled to be complete in early February.
New fencing around the arenas will make the facilities safer and more secure for users while providing an area that complements surrounding facilities. The scheduled arena fence replacements are funded through a NSW Government grant of $250,000.
The arenas are the centrepiece of the annual Nowra and Kangaroo Valley Shows, as well hosting several community events throughout the year.
The design of the fencing will maintain the existing look of the current fencing and will be designed to blend into the surrounding heritage landscape. Works at Nowra will be completed by February and works at Kangaroo Valley will be completed by March.
Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley said the improvements will make both showgrounds much better venues for a wide range of users.
“Nowra Showground is used by thousands of people each year, from the hundreds of people that turn out to the Nowra Show to equestrian events, car shows and swap meets. Kangaroo Valley Showground is also an important venue and like Nowra is used as an evacuation centre during bushfire emergencies.
“Showgrounds often have old infrastructure that would fall into disrepair without sufficient funds for maintenance and improvements.
“This new fence will make the arena much safer for all users and provide an area that really complements the surrounding facilities at the Showground,” she said
“I’m grateful to the State Government for the financial support needed to enhance showground facilities and ensure public safety at these sites,” said Clr Findley.
