Small Sign Improvements At Clifton Park Learn To Ride, Sanctuary Point - Support from Shoalhaven City Council

Email sent to Shoalhaven City Council 11/6/2020 and response from Shoalhaven City Council today:

I'm just notifying Council of the rusted signs that have been placed in 'Clifton Park learn To Ride', Sanctuary Point.

These are on the back of most of the signs that have been placed in the park and need to be addressed, otherwise, they will erode through rust.

Maybe if aluminium was used or rust preventative - this would have maintained these signs, a lot longer.

I am asking how the Council approved these signs knowing that the material would rust, in time with wet weather conditions. 

Response email from Shoalhaven City Council today:

Thanks for your email. We are looking into what can be done to better preserve the metal brackets of the signage. Our parks maintenance team inspect the Clifton Park playground facilities 4 times per year as per the Australian Standards, any maintenance required for the learn to ride signage will be carried out as deemed necessary from the inspections.

'

I am unsure of the process of the installation of the Clifton Park Learn to Ride facility. The staff member who oversaw this project is no longer at Council. I would presume the components for the LTR were purchased as a package. That said, Council has taken your comments on board and will bear in mind the corrosion of the brackets with future installations.

So, 'Upbeat Songs With John' at Bay & Basin 92.7FM radio show has been broadcasting since the 18th May 2020.

The main reason for producing this show, in my mind, is if I can make one person happy while listening, I have done my job. It is a self-satisfaction reward. If I hear someone say something like, 'a friend of mine heard the show and was happy,' that is the only financial payment I need to make me more than happy.

I love doing things in life for nothing - for the benefit of others that need it. In our working life, we work to earn but in my retirement life I live to learn of others and give that little help that people need to beautify their lives. Everyone's life is so, so important.

So, been given this golden opportunity is great and a unique way of  'spreading my love of music'. Thank you to the 17 people that have liked the 'Upbeat Songs With John' FaceBook Page. Blacktown City Bushfire Appeal to directly benefit Shoalhaven Bushfire Affected Residents - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council has today welcomed Blacktown City Council Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM to the Shoalhaven, to present a donation of $30,000 to the Shoalhaven Mayor’s Bushfire Relief Fund on behalf of the City of Blacktown.

Mayor Bleasdale stipulated that all monies raised by the City of Blacktown are to go directly to people impacted by the bushfires. 

To date the Shoalhaven Mayor’s Bushfire Relief Fund has disbursed $258,995 to bushfire affected residents in the Shoalhaven with a total of $361,696.18 raised and 265 of phase one grants allocated.  

Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley said, “We are grateful to the people of Blacktown for their generosity in supporting our region as we work to emerge from this bushfire season and its impacts in a better, stronger and more resilient position. 

“We are acutely aware that the bushfire recovery process is long and ongoing, with many fire-affected families facing new challenges and needs that come with the colder winter months,” she said. 

“We will continue to make sure the payments go to individuals and trades people who have been directly impacted and need it the most and are committed to providing residents with ongoing support for the long term,” said Clr Findley. 

Blacktown City’s Mayor said, “In January this year, Council committed to do whatever it could to assist the councils and communities that were devastated by the bushfires. Our Bushfire Appeal raised more than $80,000 in cash donations for bushfire affected communities.”  

“Council wanted to make sure that our Bushfire Appeal donations went directly to support residents directly affected by the fires, funds are also going to the not-for-profit organisation GIVIT and the Milton and Nowra Country Women’s Association,” said Mayor Bleasdale. 

Shoalhaven residents who are eligible for assistance from the Shoalhaven Mayor’s Bushfire Relief Fund include full-time residents in the Shoalhaven (including renters), and whose home, infrastructure or outbuildings have been damaged or destroyed and tradespeople, including apprentices, who have had vehicles, equipment or tools damaged or destroyed. 

If you were directly impacted by the bushfires, and are in immediate need of financial assistance, you can apply for a payment from the Mayor's Relief Fund by completing the application form available on Council’s website. Applications will be considered on a needs basis until the funds run out.

Floodlight Towers and Smarter Lighting for Berry Showground - Shoalhaven City Council - Media Release

Shoalhaven City Council has recently completed the installation of six new 22-metre high light towers at Berry Showground.  

The recently completed works include the installation of six light towers, energy efficient LED floodlights and a smart phone controller system; allowing sportsground users the ability to operate the lights via a phone-based system.  

The project cost of $150,000 was funded by Council and is another step towards creating safer, energy efficient facilities for sportsgrounds in the Shoalhaven.  

Berry Management Committee member Bill Seelis was pleased to see the improved Showground lighting and the benefits it will bring to the community.  

“The local football club's night-time training will be made easier due to the better lighting; and the many multi-day events which help support the local economy will also benefit from the improved Berry Showground lighting,” Mr Seelis said. 

The Committee were also impressed with the cost savings, both in terms of electricity consumption, and the removal of the more costly lighting as replacement parts for these are mostly unavailable. 

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley was also pleased to see the lighting installation works completed.  

“It is great to see sportsground improvements rolling out across the Shoalhaven. The floodlights improve safety for players and the new controller system ensures lights are only operational when the fields are in use. 

“The LED floodlights reduce ‘light spill’ outside of fields and use 50 per cent less power than traditional floodlight fittings, providing cost savings for Council and the community. 

“I’m happy to see Berry Showground receiving improvements to ensure it can serve our community well into the future,” Clr Findley said.
