Dear ,

Every year, through the Coral McLean Awards, we celebrate the outstanding achievements of local Chifley women.
 
I’m writing to you to see if you know an inspiring woman who deserves to be recognised for her contribution to our area. If you do, I’d appreciate it if you could please fill in the nomination form here. Nominations close at 5:00pm on Friday, 26 September 2025. To submit the form, please email to contact@edhusic.com, post to PO Box 589, Plumpton NSW 2761 or drop into the office at Plumpton Marketplace.
 
Three categories will be awarded; the Coral McLean Award, Chifley Woman of the Year Award and Young Chifley Woman of the Year Award. Further details on the criteria can be found on the nomination form otherwise, feel free to give my office a call if you have any questions.
 
The Coral McLean Awards are dedicated in memory of Coral McLean, known to many as the ‘Mother of Mt Druitt’. Coral helped establish the Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre and was one of the founders of the Mt Druitt Reconciliation Group, helping pioneer the annual Reconciliation Walk.
 
The awards will be announced at a special event and we will keep you up to date on further details.

Chifley Community Update - Hon. Ed Husic

 

Dear friend,
 
The latest round of the Local Sporting Champions (LSC) and Local Para Champions (LPC) programs is now open. 
The program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships. 
The Australian Sports Commission will oversee the process of conducting eligibility checks and will begin assessments for all eligible applications in August 2023. 
All applications must be submitted directly to the Australian Sporting Commission via the links below:

 
Nominations close at 5:00pm on Monday, 31 July 2023.

Chifley Community Update - Ed. Husic

 


I wanted to send you a reminder that the Expressions of

 Interest (EOI) round for the ‘Powering Communities Program

 will close tomorrow Thursday, 10 June 2021. 


The Powering Communities Program will provide $10.2 million

 in grants to help not-for-profit community organisations reduce

 energy use, improve energy productivity and reduce

 greenhouse gas emissions.


Up to $67,700 is available to fund up to 12 projects in every

 electorate, including right here in Chifley.

The minimum grant amount is $5,000.

The maximum grant amount is $12,000.

The program aims to save energy and reduce power bills through:

  • Upgrading equipment to reduce energy consumption
  • Undertaking energy management activities and assessments, such as energy systems assessments and feasibility studies
  • Investing in energy monitoring and management systems
  • Investing in on-site renewable energy and solar-connected batteries

Eligible projects include:

  • Installing solar PV systems and solar-connected batteries
  • Replacing some energy using equipment with new, more efficient equipment
  • Energy audits and monitoring equipment

The full list of eligible activities are set out in the Program Guidelines.

How to apply:

Read the Program Guidelines, make sure that your organisation and activities are eligible, then complete  EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM before 5pm Thursday, 10 June 2021.

If your EOI is approved, you will be invited to complete a detailed formal application through an online portal which will be processed by the Department of Industry.

I wanted to let you know about grant opportunities

and local events happening in our local area.


The Volunteer Grants - 2021 Round is open and I

am calling on Expression of Interest for projects by

15 April 2021. Please note, if you are successful

through the Consultation Committee, you will be

notified by 20 May 2021 to submit your

official applications with the Department.

Further information can be found below. 

There is also ONE WEEK left to submit your

nominations for the Coral McLean Awards. The

presentation will be held at a special ceremony on

20 April 2021.

VOLUNTEER GRANTS - EOI OPEN 
 
Volunteers and volunteer organisations are the heart

and soul of our communities, but they also need 

support for the valuable work they do. This is why 

I’m writing to let you know that the 2021 round of the 

Volunteer Grants is now open.
 

Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are available 

for eligible not-for-profit community organisations.
 

These grants can be used for things such as:
  • purchasing equipment
  • contributing to transport or fuel costs
  • providing training for volunteers or covering the cost of screening checks
Please carefully read the guidelines on the

Department’s website here and if your organisation

is eligible you may wish to complete the application

form here. This form must be returned to my office

by 5pm on Thursday, 15 April 2021 by email

to contact@edhusic.com or by mail to PO Box 589,

Plumpton NSW 2761.

Please note this is an EOI round and successful

applicants will be notified by 20 May 2021 to process

their official applications to the Department.

Sadly, we lost Coral in 2011 after a 20-month battle 

with breast cancer. This year we will proudly be 

donating all proceeds raised to the McGrath 

Foundation who help women and families 

with information, education, reassurance, and 

empathy throughout the trajectory of their breast 

cancer treatment.
 
The awards will be announced at a special breakfast 

on Tuesday, 20 April 2021. An invitation will be sent 

out shortly.

SALUTING THEIR SERVICE PROGRAM
 

The Australian Government is inviting applications 

through an open competitive process to apply for 

grant funding under the Saluting Their 

Service Commemorative Grants Program.


The program is designed to preserve Australia’s 

wartime heritage; involve people around the country 

in a wide range of projects and activities that 

highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia’s 

service personnel in wars, conflicts and peace 

operations; and promote appreciation and 

understanding of the experiences of service and the 

roles that those who served have played in shaping 

the nation.

There are 2 categories of grants available under the program:

  1. Community Grants (STS-CG)
    Grants to a maximum of $10,000 are available for local, community-based projects and activities.
  2. Major Grants (STS-MG) Grants between $10,001 and $150,000 are available for major commemorative projects and activities that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or regional perspective.

2020 Coral McLean Awards Are Open - Hon. Ed Husic, Federal Member for Chifley

 

I wanted to give you an update on this year's Coral McLean Awards. 

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has sent through their nominations. It's so important that we acknowledge the enormous contributions so many women are making in our community, especially during these different times. 

I am determined to hold an event to ensure women in our area are recognised and will be hosting an awards lunch on 13 October 2020 at 12:30pm. Given COVID restrictions, we won't be able to host a breakfast for everyone but instead the awards lunch will be for nominees and their nominators only. Zoom details for those still wishing to participate will be sent out shortly. 

It's also not too late to nominate an inspiring woman making a difference. You can still send in a nomination by completing the FORM HERE and returning by 5pm on Thursday, 1 October 2020 via email to contact@edhusic.com or posting to PO Box 259, Mount Druitt NSW 2770.

Dear friend,

I wanted to give you an important update about this

years Coral McLean Awards. 



It is important that we all take steps to ensure the

safety of our community during the developing

spread of COVID-19. As a precautionary measure,

we have decided to postpone the Awards Breakfast

until further notice.


I will keep you up-to-date in the coming months of

any changes. In the meantime, nominations will

remain open until a new date can be arranged.
