Dear John, One trillion dollars. It’s a staggering number. And it’s where our national debt is under Labor. By 2029-30 it’s expected to hit two trillion dollars. Here’s what the repayments of the interest alone looks like: $211 million per day $8.8 million an hour $147,000 a minute It’s hard to get your head around such massive numbers, because we’ve gotten so used to Labor spending like it means nothing. But we will have to pay, whether it’s now or when our children and grandchildren are in the workforce. The bill will come due. In fact, we are paying for it right now. Labor has no plan to pay down the debt. In fact, they’re increasing spending. And that means more taxes. I’ve spent the last week with my colleague Dan Tehan in Victoria speaking with small business owners and locals about what it’s like under Labor
The picture I had described to me is pretty bleak. Neither state nor federal Labor are interested in supporting small businesses. They aren’t reducing regulations, they aren’t lowering taxes. Instead they treat them as a cash cow and an inconvenience. But these businesses are central to local communities and local economies. They give young people jobs, families a secure income and legacy, and train people up to be productive members of our society. They told me they feel like they’re treated like criminals. Which is quite the irony when actual criminals in Labor’s unions are running around Victoria getting massive government contracts. This is all because Labor doesn't understand small business. They are the party of government jobs, taxpayer-funded grants, and closed shop union cartels. They know nothing about personal aspiration, productivity, and the willingness to take a risk to build something. That’s why they can never pay off the debt as well. Productivity and a growing economy is what will get the nation’s finances back on track. That starts by backing small businesses. But under Labor, it’s never going to happen. Yours sincerely,
