Dear John,
At Story Factory, we believe that reading is access but writing is agency. Every day in our creative writing programs, we watch young people suddenly see themselves and their futures differently.
One of the first students we worked with was Bindi, who first joined Story Factory’s programs in 2013 when she was ten years old. Like many of the young people we work with, Bindi grew up in what she describes as a ‘turbulent ecosystem.’
Experiences of disadvantage can determine a young person’s future if they don’t have access to the right opportunities for support. Story Factory’s creative writing programs provide young people like Bindi with the skills and confidence to engage and succeed at school, helping them reach their full potential and break cycles of disadvantage.
As we approach the end of the financial year, we are asking for your support to transform the lives of 11,000 more young people through creative writing and storytelling over the next 12 months.
Now 23, Bindi is a successful radio broadcaster, DJ, writer and dancer, and Story Factory’s newest Board Member. She credits Story Factory with giving her the tools to positively shape her own life, reflecting:

'It wasn’t until I came across Story Factory that I felt like my life didn't change, but I was given the tools that I needed to change my own life.
I think it’s easy for us to say, “this thing is going to change someone’s life”…but I think what’s more beautiful is when you are able to be a supporter, so that a person can be their own conduit of change.
If it wasn't for Story Factory, I wouldn't be able to find the language and the essence that I see in the world today.'
Your donation will make it possible for Story Factory to support more young people like Bindi write their own stories and become their own agents of change.
If you’re in a position to do so, please consider making a tax-deductible donation before June 30.
With gratitude,
Cath and the Story Factory team
