New rental laws are in place giving tenants greater protections, including:
A landlord can only end a lease for certain reasons, such as the property is being sold or they're moving in themselves.
Longer notice periods for tenants in fixed leases so tenants get more time to find a new home.
Landlords can only refuse a request to keep a pet for certain reasons. A response must be given within 21 days or the request is automatically approved. Tenants can't be charged extra rent or bond.

Have your say on the draft NSW Heritage Strategy
We need your feedback on the government’s proposed strategy for protecting NSW Heritage in its many forms, now and into the future.
‘Heritage’ refers to the places, objects and stories we’ve inherited from the past and want to protect for the future: landscapes, buildings and structures and the meanings and values we associate with them.
Consultation closes 13 July 2025.
Staying safe online
Don't give up control of your screen
Some scammers claim they can improve your technology or fix an issue with a quick remote access session with your computer. It’s a trick designed to let them in.
Never install new software at a stranger’s request and never give anyone remote access to your screen.
