Shoalhaven City Council Media Release

12 July 2021

Shoalhaven City Council invites all Shoalhaven Local Government 2021 election candidates to a pre-election candidate session in Nowra or Ulladulla on Wednesday, 21 July 2021. Each session will provide candidates with information regarding Council’s core business, as well as explaining the role of Councillors and the Mayor.

Shoalhaven City Council’s CEO, Stephen Dunshea encourages all candidates to attend the sessions to ensure they understand the roles and responsibilities of becoming a Councillor or Mayor.

“Our pre-election candidate sessions are there to help our new candidates better understand the role Council plays, in particular the roles and responsibilities of becoming a Councillor or Mayor of the City.” Mr. Dunshea said.

“Each session will provide an overview on the legal and ethical responsibilities, time commitment required, available support and the skills required to successfully fulfil the roles of Mayor and/or Councillor.” Mr. Dunshea said.

“I hope every candidate is able to attend a session, whether it be in-person or online, and that they leave feeling informed.” Mr. Dunshea noted.

The pre-election candidate sessions will take place on Wednesday, 21 July 2021 at the Ulladulla Civic Centre from 9:30am to 12:30pm and at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre from 4pm to 7pm. At this stage, these sessions will run as planned, with further assessments made on their feasibility as information comes to hand.
