STATEMENT REGARDING NATIONAL VOLUNTEERING CONFERENCE 2020

MONDAY 16 MARCH 2020
We would like to advise all attendees that we are investigating rescheduling the National Volunteering Conference to a future date. At this stage we are not able to confirm the exact dates, however we will keep delegates, speakers and sponsors informed as we confirm next steps.

In the meantime we recommend all attendees seek refunds or credits for transport and accommodation related to the conference. Those attending through the scholarship program will not need to contact travel/accommodation providers as this will be managed through the conference organisers.

While we are very disappointed, the decision not to proceed was made on the advice of the Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer for the protection of the community and to help reduce transmission of COVID-19. This is especially important given predictions that the pandemic will peak in Australia in winter. We all need to pull together at this difficult time and help ‘flatten the curve’.

We understand the inconvenience this necessary decision may have caused and we are working as quickly as possible to provide updates and alternatives. In the meantime we appreciate your patience and understanding.

For more information on the virus and the steps that can be taken to minimise its impact, visit the Australian Government Department of Health website.
FRIDAY 13 MARCH 2020
Following the advice from the Australian Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy, on the COVID-19 Virus and large gatherings of people, the Governance Committee for the National Volunteering Conference 2020 met on Friday 13 March 2020.
Based on this advice and with careful consideration, we regret to advise that the National Volunteering Conference 2020 will not be going ahead as planned this week (18 – 20 March 2020).
We will endeavour to update all delegates, sponsors and stakeholders with information as it comes to hand through the Conference website https://volunteering2020.org from Monday.
We thank you in advance for your understanding.
